Seasonality of Pathfinder Avhrr Land Ndvi Data for Northeastern Brazil

چکیده
The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was used to characterize the seasonal variation of land cover over the Northeastern Brazil (NEB) with the NOAA/NASA Pathfinder AVHRR Land (PAL) data set. Twenty years of monthly spatial-aggregated NDVI climatology was determined by calculating lower, mean, and upper NDVI values using a 0.5 lat by 0.5 log grid cell size. The results indicated that the threshold NDVI values of lower and upper phenological activity are 0.103 and 0.771 over NEB, respectively. In this study it was also found that the distribution of NDVI frequency values ranged from 34% (peak centered at 0.3) to 51% (peak centered at 0.7) in May and from 40% (peak centered at 0.3) to 42% (peak centered at 0.7) in October. The seasonal variation of lower and mean NDVI values reflected a better discriminator of the changes of NDVI related to rainy and dry seasons.

Effect of orbital drift and sensor changes on the time series of AVHRR vegetation index data
This paper assesses the effect of changes in solar zenith angle (SZA) and sensor changes on reflectances in channel 1, channel 2, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) from the advanced very high resolution radiometer (AVHRR) Pathfinder land data set for the period July 1981 through September 1994. First, the effect of changes in SZA on channel reflectances and NDVI is derived from ...
متن کاملLand surface phenology, climatic variation, and institutional change: Analyzing agricultural land cover change in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is the second largest country to emerge from the collapse of the Soviet Union. Consequent to the abrupt institutional changes surrounding the disintegration of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, Kazakhstan has reportedly undergone extensive land cover/land use change. Were the institutional changes sufficiently great to affect land surface phenology at spatial resolutions and exten...

0099-1112/07/7309–1029/$3.00/0 © 2007 American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Abstract This study established spectral matching techniques (SMTs) to determine land-use and land-cover (LULC) and irrigated area classes from historical time-series (HTS-LULC) AVHRR 0.1-degree pathfinder satellite sensor data. The approach for HTS-LULC mapping and characterization was to develop “targ...
متن کاملAnalysis of interannual changes in northern vegetation activity observed in AVHRR data from 1981 to 1994
This paper reports on the analysis of Pathfinder AVHRR land (PAL) data set that spans the period July 1981 to September 1994. The time series of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data for land areas north of 45 N assembled by correcting the PAL data with spectral methods confirms the northerly greening trend and extension of the photosynthetically active growing season. Analysis of ...
متن کاملInterannual covariability in remotely sensed vegetation index and actual evapotranspiration over northern Eurasia
The covariability between the interannual changes of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and actual evapotranspiration was examined. This study employed NDVI datasets from the Pathfinder AVHRR Land (PAL) data and the Global Inventory Monitoring and Modeling Studies (GIMMS) group to reduce the uncertainty that may be involved in the NDVI time series. The analysis was carried out for th...
